MIDSUMMER IN TEMPLE BAR
Date: June 20th-21st 2009
Venue: Meeting House Square and other locations in Temple Bar
Admission Free
The longest day of the year will be celebrated with fire, feasting, film and a fair to mark Midsummer in Temple Bar taking place 20th and 21st June. Bring your picnic blankets into Temple Bar as we recreate a green meadow for one day only to celebrate the magic of Midsummer!
Temple Bar Cultural Trust presents fire entertainment in Meeting House Square with 3 Brightspark Fire Performers creating an amazing visual display of fire dancing, fire juggling and fire on stilts.
Staying outdoors, wrap up and enjoy the screening of the Oscar winning film Dead Poets Society (1989) where William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream features as a theme throughout.
On Sunday, our Midsummer Fair features Temple Bar’s three outdoor markets including foods, handmade crafts, books and flowers. The Midsummer Fair will be the perfect spot for lunch on Father’s day with a roasting hog on spit, ice-cream, baked-potatoes, fruits, cheeses, oysters and more!
The Midsummer Fair will be bursting with Children’s Entertainment with a Punch & Judy and magic show, balloon-modeling, face-painting and walkabout characters on stilts. Music at the Fair includes ‘The Mad Hatters’ samba band and traditional musicians from ‘The Irish House Party’.
The Drumreilly Community Group, Co. Leitrim, are visiting Temple Bar especially to close the Midsummer Fair by giving a very special performance of their Maypole Dance - a popular custom at this high-point of Summer.
