The Real Olive Co (Prop – Brendan O’Mahony)
It is fair to say that without The Real Olive Co there may never have been a Temple Bar Food Market. It was Brendan O’Mahony’s predecessor in the Olive Co, Toby Simonds, who pioneered the idea of traders gathering every Saturday in Meeting House Square some 11 years ago. This beautifully presented stall has been one of the market’s biggest draws ever since.
To say that he specialises in olives and Mediterranean food simply doesn’t do justice to the scope of this enterprise. Through his french agent, Brendan sources the most extensive selection of antipasti, olive oils and olives from producers that range from Tunisia, Greece, Egypt, Spain and Italy, to name but a few.
In addition to (at least) fifteen varieties of olives you will also find a constantly changing array of pestos, hummus and tapenades alongside mountains of stuffed vine leaves and peppers. This really is the ultimate party or picnic food, just open a bottle of vino and allow your guests to graze their way around the Med. Dubliners, swallow your pride, this West Cork man has been educating your palates for over a decade!
