Out Of The Blue is the market-trading arm of parent company, East Coast Inshore Fish Sales, who have been operating in the Capital since 1942.

As commission agents they have access to the best catches from the best fishing grounds around the coast of this island. Their primary concern is freshness, as their michelin-starred restaurant clients will testify.

The best advice for fish lovers is to get here early; tides, weather conditions and seasonality will all effect the quantities of glistening, bright-eyed specimens adorning the ice.

As with any wild food, selections will vary but expect to choose from native species such as cod, haddock, ray, turbot, halibut, john dory, black sole and Clare Island Salmon on any given Saturday. Shellfish and crustacea such as mussels, clams, scallops and langoustines are in prime condition, and cooking methods and suggestions are happily discussed.

Ex-pats from France, Spain and Italy flock here before lunch, so drop in before then to ensure the best selection. If you ask nicely, their Temple Bar man will hold your purchases for collection while you do your Saturday thing.
