Denis Healy’s Organic Farm (Prop – Denis Healy)
The irrepressible Denis Healy is a legend in market trading circles and was one of the original six who gathered in Meeting House Square 11 years ago to found the Temple Bar Food Market. An inner city Dubliner who relocated to Kiltegan, Co Wicklow for a better life, he has been improving ours with his organic produce for over 25 years.
His farm was certified by the Soil Association in ’84 and today boasts twenty acres of organic crops from cabbages, salad leaves and herbs to potatoes, spinach and parsnips. He is also one of the largest, if not the largest importer of organic fruit and vegetables in Ireland and his enormous stall could be considered a market in it’s own right.
Whatever the season, expect to find the very best organic produce that France, Italy, Spain and Holland have to offer from exotic citrus fruits to prized white asparagus and marsh samphire. This is perhaps the best place in the country to find wild mushrooms and black truffles. An indispensibe amenity for anyone who is serious about food and nutrition, this is the stall, and he is the trailblazer who made it all possible.
